About
I am a visual artist based in somerset. I have recently moved from the North East coast of Scotland where I lived for the past 20 years, working in the Arts as a professional artist and teaching creative workshops, alongside being a parent and foster carer.
The process of making Art is as much an internal one as it is technical. On my quest to evolve the freedom of expression in my work and connect to the creative force to birth that which matters to me, there has been adversity to traverse and much that life has revealed.
Working in close connection to nature, inspired by the stars, the sun, the oceans and mountains, the forests and the flowers and all that gives rise to the incredible elemental life on earth, I have been discovering the beauty of life.
I work with both energy and matter.
The marks inviting us within, into the body, into the heart, into our experience, into the grief, into the joy and into freedom.
Allowing energy to have its momentum and learning to trust the emerging marks, reflecting on and paying close attention to what is working and what is not, so the work may evolve.
Developing the capacity to dissolve or create form as required.
whether I create with pencil, pastel, paper or paint [or even biro] my work is about a discovery of soul and how more life may be revealed bringing meaning and purpose.
I love working outside, much easier in Somerset than north East Scotland! It is an immersive experience, with a wide field of view and a vast range of visual information.
The speed it can all shift and change has led me to work quickly and intuitively, using a variety of materials that lend themselves to this way of working, learning as I go, feeling the joy of discovery and visceral quality of marks as they emerge.
I studied Art at Central St Martins School of Art in London and Fine Art in Leeds. I went on to exhibit with Galleries in Scotland and London, receiving Arts awards early in my career.
The work lives in private collections in the UK and abroad.
I have shown at the Coast Art Fair, had work at Edinburgh Festival and selected juried shows at Aberdeen Art Gallery, been a member of the Banffshire Artist Collective and participated in various open studio events.
